$40m Golf Project Planned For Turkey
Atlas, a Turkish-based steel and shipping company, has been given the green light to build the first ever golf resort in Altinkum, Didim at a cost of $40million. The project will be built over 170 acres of land and comprise of an 18-hole golf course and a residential holiday village with over 400 units for sale. "The project has been put to public consultation and there are no objections," said Atlas spokesperson, Turgay Kinaci in an interview with Voices Newspaper. "As far as we are concerned, once all the legalities are complete, Atlas will build the first golf course in Didim. It will be a major boost to tourism to the whole area." In a separate development, the mayor of Didim, Mumin Kamaci, revealed that a Swedish-based consortium had also contacted the council with plans to build a similar sized golf resort in the area. Kamaci remained tightlipped about the talks, but did say that the Scandinavian group had been given a number of options for its project and had left to consider its next step. A recent report released by accountancy KPMG found that the game of golf was now worth more than €50billion per year across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with real estate being the biggest breadwinner, accounting for €billion worth of revenue per annum.
